iSpindel Pill

The iSpindel Pill is an iSpindel designed to fit the Kegland Pill housing. Only the original Lola controller is used in this version. It is a digital hydrometer and thermometer that measures fluid density directly in the fermenter, sending data to a mobile app at regular intervals.

Tip for iRelay users: Calibration is easier because tilt values are displayed directly on the screen.

Device Setup

Install the app on your mobile device, such as Brew Spy. Power on the iSpindel and press the reset button 4–5 times within 2–3 seconds. This activates a special WiFi network (“ispindel”) for 5 minutes. Connect via your phone or laptop to copy settings from the app. Open a browser and go to 192.168.4.1. Enter the settings according to the app instructions. All changes must be completed within 5 minutes, otherwise the device disables the WiFi setup mode.

For detailed setup instructions and video, visit the official Brew Spy guide.

Calibration

Calibration of your iSpindel can be performed using the online calibration tool: Open iSpindel Calibration Tool.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The app shows SG = 0. What is the problem?
The calibration formula is incorrect. Repeat the calibration and enter the correct formula. Use Degree 2 formula and replace x with tilt. Example:
-0.000002811 * tilt^2 + 0.002462149 * tilt + 0.943543968

Maximum operating temperature? Can I use it at 78°C mash out?
The maximum safe temperature is 45°C. Higher temperatures may damage electronics or melt 3D printed parts.

How to calibrate the voltage display?
From firmware 3.0 onward, the conversion factor can be adjusted:
(displayed voltage / measured voltage) * current factor (191.8) = new factor
New factor should stay within ±20% of the current factor (191.8 × 0.8 – 191.8 × 1.2).
